A Sweeter Spot (Rivers Bend Trilogy Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 16 ratings

Magda knows a 28-year-old shouldn’t run away from home, but Rivers Bend is the ideal escape. Helping out her best friend will get her away from her uber-wealthy, controlling grandmother and duplicitous ex. She doesn’t expect the quirky little town to feel so much like home. Add in hotter-than-the-sun Jeff and his daughter, and leaving seems as unthinkable as it is inevitable.

Raising Sam alone, Jeff knew he wanted her to grow up in his supportive hometown. The arrival of a feisty new tenant sends Jeff's world spinning. Magda fills a void in his life that he’d like to make permanent.

Will love triumph over the most powerful woman in the country, and can they figure out how to make this happy-for-now in Rivers Bend into their happy-ever-after?

Donna Simonetta writes the kind of books she loves to read––contemporary romances to help you escape the real world for a little while. Writing is Donna’s third career. She toiled in the business world, decided it wasn’t for her, and went back to school to get her MLS degree. Next, she worked in a school library for many years. But, Donna dreamed of being an author since she was a little girl, and began to squeeze writing into her day. After the publication of her second book, Donna decided to leave the library and become a full-time author. She also publishes cozy mysteries under the pen name Louise Stevens.

Donna lives in Maryland with her husband, who is her real-life romance hero. They enjoy traveling to visit far-flung family and friends, and spending time on the beach with an umbrella drink and a good book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love at first sight!
Reviewed in the United States on 6 November 2020
This is my first book from this author, but it won’t be my last. Magda (Maggie) and Jeff are instantly attracted when they meet, but both have complicated pasts and seemingly insurmountable obstacles to creating a life together. Jeff is a dreamy hero and I loved everything about him, especially his devotion to his daughter Sam. I grew up in Virginia and really enjoyed the lovely setting painted by Ms. Simonetta. A heart-warming steamy read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Delightful Southern Charm
Reviewed in the United States on 19 March 2019
It took me awhile to get into the story but when I did, I really enjoyed the interplay between the characters, and especially the setting in River Bend, Virginia. Ms. Simonetta did a fantastic job creating a picturesque small, Southern town. I could imagine myself strolling downtown and being greeted by the friendly residents as I entered the library and spotted Magda (Maggie) Horvath behind the circulation desk. If I lingered, I would see Maggie's hunny love interest, Jeff Brayden deliver a special lunch treat for them to share. Jeff's daughter, Samantha (Sam) was a delightful addition to the story. Actually, Ms. Simonetta excels with characterization, and I came away from the story feeling as if I knew each and every character, even Maggie's horrific ex-fiance and pitiful grandmother.
The occasional foul language and descriptive sex scenes kept me from giving this story 5 stars. For me, they just didn't fit the characters and setting. However, I would recommend this to and author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must read!
Reviewed in the United States on 18 February 2017
If you love a great romance novel, this is a must! Perfect mix of love, passion, humor and of course the villainess you hate, but pity more. Can't wait for book 2 in the Rivers Bend Trilogy!

4.0 out of 5 stars An obscure romance writer who really shouldn’t be so obscure.
Reviewed in the United States on 16 September 2020
I’m not a romance junkie, but I’ve read enough to know that my first read by Donna Simonetta won’t be my last. A Sweeter Spot was sweet indeed, just the right mix of male chivalry and female empowerment. The reader (audio) occasionally distracted from the story, but ultimately worked. I’m off to the 2nd in the trilogy.

5.0 out of 5 stars A heroine to root for!
Reviewed in the United States on 10 May 2018
I really liked this book. The writing voice is natural and Magda is a great character who's easy to root for. Everyone is three-dimensional and relatable. Throw in some roadblocks and villains and you've got a page-turning fun read.
