    I like these series by Norrington because of the intimate string sound , especially for the symphonies with the smaller orchestra. The entire box should be in every ones basic collection . The tempos are sometimes notably different than the average ""standard"" I was used to. You decide if that irritates.

    Vom Box-Set aus betrachtet lässt sich klar sagen, alle Interpretationen der Mozart-Symphonien von Sir Roger Norrington mit dem Radio-Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart des SWR bis einschließlich KV 338 sind herausragend: klangschön, wenn auch manchmal mit etwas aggressivem Blech, herrlich genau und wohlklingend phrasiert, mit adäquaten Tempi versehen, einfach gigantisch!

    Probleme habe ich hingegen bei den späteren Symphonien. So auch hier bei der "Prager" Symphonie. Hier setzt Norrington für meinen Geschmack viel zu aggressive Sforzati. Nennen Sie mich Romantiker, aber etwas mehr Klangschönheit möchte ich eben schon haben. Der Blechbläsersound macht hier an einigen Stellen das ansonsten durchaus sehr schöne Klangbild in Ansätzen kaputt. Auch finde, dass kein richtiger Fluss entsteht. Natürlich, ein wenig abgehackt wirkt die "Prager" immer im ersten Satz, das macht ja auch ihren Reiz aus. Dennoch: es ist mir hier zu viel. Ich ziehe hier exquisiten Klang der Virtuosi Saxionae unter Ludwig Güttler vor. Im Finale ist dieses Gespann allerdings dann wieder fast zu samtpfötig, da ist mir dann Norrington wiederum lieber. Ein Gemisch aus den beiden, das wäre meine Prager Symphonie. Am 2. Satz habe ich bei Norrington nichts auszusetzen, das passt schon. Letztlich besteht das Problem hauptsächlich im ersten Satz, ist dort aber gravierend.

    Hatte mir überlegt, einen Stern für den ersten Satz der "Prager" abzuziehen. Aber angesichts der Qualität, die die CD sonst auszeichnet, fände ich das übertrieben.
