Dark of Night: Episode One (an absolutely unputdownable Scottish thriller with a twist you won't see coming!) Kindle Edition
Sometimes the only way to mend a broken heart…
..Is to catch a serial killer.
Ruari was on his way to confess love to best friend Lorna. But her killer got there first.
He’s been thrown out of the police, his ex is moving on with her life. He has nothing left. Except a glimpse of Lorna’s killer.
And hallucinatory flashbacks from a bad trip in his teenage years that mean he can’t always trust his own eyes.
And the increasing sense that while he’s after the killer, someone is after him.
If you like fast paced thrills, characters you'll fall in love with and more dark Scottish humor than you can shake a haggis at, you'll love Dark of Night!

About the author

CS Duffy wrote scripts for film and TV for over a decade, and when that made her so bitter she caught herself cycling past the office of a production company giving it the finger, she quit the film industry and went to teach preschool in Stockholm. During the kids’ naps she wrote Life is Swede, a thriller in the form of a blog, which led her into the wonderful world of self publishing. The final book in her first series Glasgow Kiss was released in January 2019, and she is currently working on the Hollywoodland series, which will launch in May 2019.
In addition to her own books, her supernatural thriller The Stranger is currently running on Storytel, her thriller feature Guilty is in pre production in Canada and she once worked on an oil refinery. She was selected as a Spotlight author at Bloody Scotland in 2018.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 July 2018Came across this book quite by chance. I’m so glad I did. The author manages to grip you straight away and builds the tension throughout. Great characters, good Glasgow patter and a serial killer on the loose. I have already downloaded the next two books. Whatever you do read this. It would make great television.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 May 2018Several good and unusual characters here, not just the usual clever copper and his sidekick.
I think I'd worked out the brother angle when the mystery man was introduced but I would not be surprised if I was wrong. I look forward to episode 2.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 August 2018Book mostly good but felt story only partly told and left hanging. Should be made clear first book does not complete story. Don't know if I'll purchase the other books to finish story?
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 December 2017Having heard nothing about this book or writer , I came across the author on Insta gram. ..and I am very glad I did. There is a real authenticity of place and of person in the writing and I have not enjoyed a book so much for a while. The characters ring true and I became caught up very quickly in the story , excited as it unfolded. I downloaded the next episode as soon as I finished this first one and am already a good way in !! Cracking read.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 June 2018With Glaswegian characters, that I feel I've actually met, telling a story of murder, narcissism and every day life from their perspectives is captivating. I greedily consumed episode one in quick time, only stopping to make another cuppa to fuel my commitment to this story. Just when you think you've got the gist and hazard a stab at 'who did it', the path twists and new information presents new variables and possibilities. I cannot wait to read episode two. It's downloaded to my Kindle and I'm plotting and planning my own chunk of time to delve into the what next in Dark of Night.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 September 2020I thought the writing was not bad, until I got to the final sentence and realised that I would have to buy the next book, and goodness knows how many more, to find out the ending. That is definitely not going to happen. Mr/Ms Duffy would have to be a far better writer to justify such prima donna behaviour.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 September 2018Really enjoyed the first two volumes. The characters are well written and the atmosphere of Glasgow is well captured and recognisable. The story line kept me gripped but i'm not sure why it has been broken down into the volumes the way it has as both volumes I read ended really abruptly. Would still reccomend these books.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 August 2018Having read the reviews on Amazon I thought this would be a great read. Sorry but I found it disappointing. I found it difficult to engage with the characters as there was not much background history. Worst of all when you get to the end of the book you discover that the story isn't over and you have to buy two more books.(nice marketing ploy). My wife read the second book and gave up. I didn't bother with the second book.

A good, dark, twisty, fast paced ride but could have been a bit more fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars A day by day, hour by hour hunt for a serial killer written by a master-suspense maker!
So pleased to finally be reading more by the amazing CS Duffy. This time the suspense is set in the darkness of a gloomy Glasgow with authentically clever characters and page turning suspense. Can't wait to read Episode 2.

4.0 out of 5 stars Claire Duffy is well on her way to being one of my go-to authors for crime fiction.
Claire Duffy is well on her way to being one of my go-to authors for crime fiction. Dark of Night kept me on edge as main character Ruari tries to find out who killed Lorna, the woman he loved. I love this aspect of the story: the "investigator" is a citizen, a friend of the murdered woman, rather than a detective or retired cop as they usually are in crime fiction. Ruari is a very sympathetic character, a guy we can relate to as someone who too often lets opportunities slip through his fingers. Well, he wants to make up for that loss by finding Lorna's killer. Problem is, Lorna is not the only victim. It soon appears we have a serial killer in our midst! Duffy moves the reader among various points of view, teasing us with hints and suspicions of just who is the killer. I also really like the format of breaking the episode into dates and starting off each section with the time. It really helped in keeping track of just how fast this story goes. Her humor is spot-on and timed to ease the plot's tension. Of course, there's a cliff-hanger of an ending, which is why I need to hurry along and start reading Episode 2.
