From the age of 17 (now in mid thirties) I have been looking to self help books to find purpose and meaning in my life, and I would admit to being a self confessed self help junkie.

But any change is usually fleeting, and life falls back as ever to what it was. I'm not about to write what you think - I didn't pick up the beautifully illustrated Lazy Guru's Guide to Life and suddenly my life changed, that I had finally found 'the one', but I will tell you this - this short, easily digestable book has a message that hit home with me, as for years I have been striving to be better, to be made whole, having the niggling feeling that something isn't quite right with me, and putting unwanted feelings into little boxes and trying very hard to keep them there really resonated!

The whole concept is an eye opener, because it seems effortlessly true to me, it reflects reality, but does it offer solutions to the human problem? Absolutely. It's not a magic formula though, the answer is there but your life won't transform overnight - it's not that sort of self help book really - the one that promises the earth, but what it does is deliver a recipe for change.

If you are like me, it will give you a thirst to follow the path it outlines, I'm on that journey, and what's particularly helpful is that whilst being profound and insightful, it can be read in less than an hour. It is therefore very amendable to repeat reading, I'm on my 20th reading (approx), and now when I want to refresh my memory I can have it reread in 20 minutes.

Sometimes less is more, and the visuals, the illustrations, really help to bring the message home. You literally have nothing to lose by buying this great wee book, the most ringing endorsement of it I can give is it has the air of authenticity to it, it lacks the bs factor that so many self help books are sold on, join the revolution, become a lazy guru!!!

I bought this book at a low point in my life, and found it to be an effective and insightful balm for my ills. The concepts the book explores (Flow etc.) are fascinating and helpful, and the cartoons really bring it alive and make it a lot easier to read. My kids started reading it also, and for some reason they love it too. Who knew that a 9-year-old could get into self-help? Anyhow, 5 stars from me!

Essentially a stocking-filler / gift book for someone else. Nice quality in hardback, not too big, nice to flick through and look at the cartoons & short words of wisdom.

This is a life-changing book. All you have to do is practise a simple exercise in three steps. For me the results have been remarkable.

The author and illustrator have succeeded in distilling some of the great wisdom traditions into an entertaining few pages of text and cartoons. I read it in under an hour, and started putting it into practice right away.

    Highly recommended!

I was instantly attracted to 'achieving more by doing less', and this is a very charming book that fulfils its promise.
A great gift for so many people who could really use a masterclass on how to BEDITATE, and more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wise and humorous guidance for getting back into the natural flow of life!

Laurence Shorter somehow manages to pack all the wisdom of an enlightened Zen master into a small book. The illustrations are simple yet evocative and pair well with Laurence’s insightful and humorous writing style. The simple tools and exercises helped me slow down and reconnect to my more expanded and interconnected self. This is a book I will keep close by, with each read I know it will guide me back into life’s natural, loving flow.

If the Beatles had followed Laurence Shorter instead of the Maharishi they would still be together today. I've always wanted to achieve more doing less and now I have an easy to read roadmap. Most of these type of books are terrible but Laurence Shorter nails it. Well done.
