About the author
Kate Blakemore is a mum of three, who is a counsellor with specialism in infant loss and birth trauma. Kate has had her private counselling practice since 2012 and has a diploma in Specialist Fertility Counselling.
Kate is also the founder and Chief Executive of the charity Motherwell Cheshire, a Women and Girls Charity which was founded in 2015.
Kate is passionate about supporting women and girls and in particular mums mental health. Kate felt there were many books out there for new mums but nothing really available for the “mothering journey” and so the start of the book “mums the word - the mothering journey” began.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 September 2024I absolutely devoured this book - it's a honest and thought provoking look at motherhood in all its stages.
This would make an ideal gift for a mum-to-be or any mum in the trenches of day-to-day parenting.
The stories in it are touching and honest, it feels like a real and raw look at life as a mum - without being negative or ungrateful for the experience, which is a hard balance to find.
I often find that writing about motherhood makes it sound like either the most amazing joy you can experience and a constant happiness, or hell on earth that you wouldn't wish on anyone with no in-between, a lot of what I read before having a baby made me terrified. This is relatable and truthful, it is pitched at just the right level.
I highly recommend!
