The designer luggage is packed. The bodily fuzz removed. It’s time for Star Survivor.
Hollywood star Zoe Stenson, TV darling June Sharp, author Toby Masters and mumfluencer Emily Chase, are ready to take part in the world-renowned reality TV show Star Survivor.
The plan is to pretend to survive for the cameras, safe in the knowledge they’ll be retiring to five-star comfort amongst the palm trees and sparkling blue sea when filming stops.
But when the four celebrities are accidentally left on the wrong South Pacific island – a truly deserted one – no amount of Instagram followers or box office sales will help them.
Forced to swap the spotlight for spearfishing, their Bollinger for beach finds, and with the world’s press clamouring for them to be found, will it be the making or breaking of these washed-up celebrities?
“Chilling and compelling, Star Survivor is a terrifying glimpse into what can happen when reality TV goes wrong… I couldn’t put it down.” Lisa Hall, bestselling author of The Day She Disappeared, The Mysterious Double Death of Honey Black, The Woman in the Woods.
“A beautifully written, wonderfully astute examination of modern society that teaches us what’s most important in life, I devoured this funny, original, heart-warming romcom, full of fabulously engaging characters, fast-paced action and a kick-ass twist that had me flying through the pages desperate to see how it would all pan out.
Star Survivor is a clever, refreshing, seriously addictive read that should be on everyone’s TBR list.” A A Chaudhuri, bestselling author of The Final Party, The Loyal Friend, She’s Mine.
“A brilliantly, funny, heart-warming and refreshing debut by Lisa Brace. I couldn’t put it down.” Anna Jefferson. Author of Winging It, Nailing It and The List for Living.
‘As fast as a bullet train and peppered with moments of genuine compassion, Star Survivor is the adventure novel everyone should be reading. One of the most original books I’ve read.’ Awais Khan, bestselling author of In The Company of Strangers, No Honour, Someone Like Her.
"Secrets, celebrities, revenge and a tropical island - what's not to love? Star Survivor is irresistibly readable!" D.E. White, bestselling author of Glass Dolls.
“Star Survivor is a fresh contemporary and commercial fiction novel, with a light yet, at times humorous, dramatic and thought-provoking thread sewn throughout. This Zeitgeist based read will appeal to the watchers of the first Big Brother series, to the newer watchers of shows such as Love Island. Lisa has created a brilliant, binge-worthy novel that will leave you feeling nothing but satisfied.” Danielle Price, The Reading Closet
“I loved the way the story unfolded and scratched deep beneath the surface of the celebrities with every chapter I read. The story was interspersed with media and social media commentary. It felt all too real at times and the ending could quite easily be something that could be true. Lisa Brace writes vibrant, strong, fun and well-rounded characters and I thoroughly enjoyed being stranded on an island with them and finding out what happened beyond that. A great read and a wholly satisfying ending.” Sue Fortin, award-winning USA Today and an Amazon bestselling author, an international bestseller and has reached #1 in the Amazon UK Kindle chart and #3 in the US Kindle chart.

About the author
Lisa Brace is an award-winning writer, who combines penning novels with running her own business in the beautiful surroundings of West Sussex.
Her debut novel, Star Survivor – a romcom with a dark twist, was published in March 2024.
Her second book, SWIM, a historical fiction novel came out in June. Gill Thompson author of bestselling The Oceans Between Us, described it as " A powerful novel about skill, courage and determination. I was completely invested in the story of Lucy Morton and her quest to become a champion swimmer. Lisa Brace’s writing moves seamlessly between tension, poignancy and humour in a compelling story. The perfect book for Olympic year."
Lisa has worked as a journalist and copywriter for over 20 years, giving her the chance to be nosy without getting into trouble.
When she had two very young children she decided she didn’t have enough on, so gained a BA Hons degree in English Literature and Language via the Open University, where her love for creative writing was sparked.
When not writing, and running writing retreats in the south of England, Lisa enjoys walking her dog, reading everything she can lay her hands on, and baking elaborate cakes.

"Star Survivor – Four celebrities marooned on a desert island. Fact or Fiction? Is it all just smoke and mirrors to satisfy the public's love for these types of shows or is there something more devious at play? - Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 May 2024I absolutely LOVED this book. I bought it expecting it to be a story about the fickleness of fame and glamour (which it is) but it’s so much more. It explores fame, social media, expectations on modern women and is also a bit of a mystery story. The characters are so relatable and their relationship to each other is very moving. And the island itself comes across as a character in its own right. Can’t wait to see what this author does next.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 June 2024The first chapter is not a true reflection of the book. I only bought it as the author's father had posted about it in a group of which I'm a member, so didn't know the premise.
I regretted buying it for the first couple of minutes then it pulled me in. The characters are engaging and the plot thickens. I kept putting it down to work out what was coming next.
A great read for a holiday or while laid in the garden. It does what it sets out to do very well and doesn't leave you feeling disappointed with the ending.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 May 2024This is a surprising book, I think from the cover and the description I thought it was going to be a lighthearted, comical survival story but it is so much more than that. Whilst Star Survivor does have humour and manages to keep a hopeful edge through the darker parts of the story, it is a wonderful exploration of what it takes to survive in the world as it is now.
I loved that I couldn’t predict what was going to happen next, I was amazed at how the story changed in such unexpected ways. It was brilliant, I didn’t want to put it down and could never have guessed the outcome.
Even though the pace changed a little throughout the book, I felt that worked well. When the characters are first on the island the pace seems unhurried and then as the story progresses it really picks up and matches what is happening to the characters.
The characters, June, Emily, Zoe, and Toby, really make this story, they are all so different and slowly as they realise their situation have to build a bond to make sure that they all survive. I liked that it was a bit of a struggle for them to find that bond, it was so genuine that they would have issues, and it made them all much stronger for it.
Even when they were all struggling they were constantly lifting each other up and sharing how grateful they were for each other. I think that’s why even when the story does get a little dark you still feel hopeful whilst reading it, knowing that they are still cheering each other on.
I also loved how these characters developed throughout the book, you have a brief idea of what each of them will be like but then all of the perceptions change as they have to accept their new reality. It was great to to see how they grappled with their own transformation at different points in the story, even Toby who at one point I thought was past the point of redemption.
I wish I could say more but this is a book that you want to go into without knowing too much so that you get the full impact of the story, but I will say that I was hooked.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 March 2024I bought this book because of a post on a Dull Mens Facebook group despite not being sure about it because of the reality show/celebrity aspect of the story. But this book is more than a tale of the spoiled "famous". It explores levels of fame and what the people behind personalities are really like. My favourite character ended up being the one I disliked most at the start (Toby) but there's nice development of Zoe, Emily and June too. Nice twists revealed throughout, I will miss this bunch of desert island darlings.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 June 2024I really loved this book. The story has plenty of twists and turns and the character development is so well done that I genuinely missed them all once I’d finished the book. The perfect summer read.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 May 2024I discovered this book thanks to a post on FB's Dull Men's Group so with such like-minded recommendation I bought it and read it. And I recommend you do so to because it's a great read. Not what I expected at all, it's more than surviving on a deserted island, much much more. There are piquant observations on the cult of celebrity and the abuse of power. It's also a tale of friendships made through adversity forming a lifelong bond. The denouement is delightful.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 June 2024A really enjoyable read, with plenty of twists and turns. I liked the inserts from newspapers/the medias version of events versus the truth. A story involving mystery/rom-com/endurance and friendship, which would be ideal for a fun holiday read.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 June 2024Being an avid reality TV watcher, I loved the premise of this book but there was so much more to it than I imagined. I saved it to read on my holiday and it was a perfect holiday read. I loved it and was really sorry that I finished reading it so quickly, I couldn’t put it down!

5.0 out of 5 stars fun, exciting read
Lisa, I bought your book based upon a suggestion from your poppa on Facebook. I cannot remember the group but he was quite fun bragging on you. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and each of the stranded characters. They were brave and resilient. It is scary to say but in this crazy world, this as a reality would not surprise me. Thank you, 41 foodie the great read!
