The Worst Girl Gang Ever: The ultimate guide to recovery after miscarriage and baby loss with guidance from experts in mindfulness, grief, therapy and relationships. Paperback – 28 Sept. 2023
Purchase options and add-ons
‘Bex and Laura really have pieced together the parachute we all need to help us land safely after falling into the world of loss and fertility struggles.’ Elle Wright, author of A Bump In The Road
A practical and emotional self-help guide for anyone affected by miscarriage and pregnancy loss, from the co-hosts of the successful podcast, The Worst Girl Gang Ever.
Following pregnancy loss, it can feel like you’ve forgotten how to speak and need to learn a new language. You can tell your story to a room full of people but if no-one speaks this new language, they won’t understand. They will try but ultimately, they won’t fully grasp what you are saying.
This is us. This is our new language. It is a language built from pain, and it is a language we need to teach others. Welcome to our gang.
We are so, so sorry that you’ve found yourself here. It’s the gang you’d never chose to join but it is also a community chock-a-block full of kind, supportive, warrior women just like you.
We are here to tell you that you are entitled to grieve, and that your grief is not disproportionate to your loss. We are here to open up the dialogue around miscarriage, so we don’t perpetuate the shame, judgement and isolation so many of us feel following pregnancy loss. We are here to equip you with knowledge, tools and guidance to support and help you in whatever way you need.
Let’s get talking. Let’s get sharing. Let’s start empowering and supporting one another.
No more shame, no more taboo, no more silence.

About the authors
Laura Buckingham is a wife, mother and nurse. She has been on her own incredible and challenging journey through recurrent miscarriage and pregnancy loss.
She started blogging to help process her thoughts and emotions during some of her darkest times but soon found that it was helping others and it was clear that her story could provide some hope for others on similar journeys. So she wrote her first book, a memoir, ‘It Will Happen’.
In Lockdown 2020 she joined forces with Bex Gunn, who had also experienced miscarriage, to create an award winning podcast named 'The Worst Girl Gang Ever'. It focuses on open and honest conversations surrounding miscarriage and pregnancy loss. The TWGGE online community is thriving and it is clear that there sadly is such a huge need for this. They run online courses to support, nurture and empower people after the loss of their baby and help people to move forward in their grief and to try to conceive again following loss.
The worst girl gang ever survival guide for navigating miscarriage and pregnancy loss is being published in August 2022.
Laura lives in Kent with husband Scoop, son Bertie, Cooper the dog, Bandit the pup and Ernie the tortoise.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 October 2023I have never written a review, but really felt I had to after reading this book. Who would have thought that reading a book could actually help with processing all the emotions that come with a miscarriage. This truly is an amazing book and I encourage anyone going through pregnancy loss to buy it. It is not a depressing book, yes some parts may make you have a wee cry, but other parts will make you smile too. This has really helped me in my journey and I cannot thank the authors enough.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 August 2024After 2 miscarriages this year, I found this book which step by step has got me through the first few weeks after my most recent miscarriage. It is hugely reassuring and supportive. I found the audio book really helpful to listen to and feel like I physically am in this group of warriors experiencing baby loss. So thank you! Still putting one foot in front of the other at the moment but feeling positive with this book in my handbag.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 August 2022This book has been needed for such a long time. It is full of all the honest truths about baby and pregnancy loss and doesn't sugar coat without being horrifically scary. If you've listened to the podcasts, you will hear Bex and Laura's voices shining through this book and it is incredibly comforting.
You don't need to have experienced baby or pregnancy loss yourself to read this book, if you know someone who has, the book articulates everything we feel perfectly and gives some excellent guidance in how to support those who have.
This book is truly the lighthouse in the storm.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 January 2023I never thought I’d say that a book on miscarriage could be amazing but this book absolutely is. I’m on my second missed miscarriage and so I bought this to try and help me deal with my miscarriage better than last time and I’m sure this will. There are so many helpful parts but for me hearing other experiences and knowing your feelings are valid no matter what the experience or how far gone you are. Thanks Laura and bex you guys are life savers. Ps love your podcast too
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 May 2023I felt so lost when I had my miscarriage. I tried reading other books on baby loss to find they only made me feel worse. But then I started counselling and my therapist recommended the worst girl gang ever. It gave me the love, support and validation I so desperately needed. I loved it so much I bought the hardback book, the audiobook, followed them on socials and have since joined their warriorship. I can’t recommend TWGGE enough and I really don’t know what I’d have done without them! I’ll be forever grateful for everything Bex and Laura have built; they have definitely changed the lives of many women for the better.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 August 2022After I lost my baby, nothing touched the sides of my grief, I found Bex and Laura’s podcast and social media pages and suddenly, there was hope. I felt seen and validated. When they said they were writing a book I knew it would be invaluable and I was right. If you are struggling after the loss of your baby, this is for you - if you know someone who has lost a baby (and you all will!) this is for them.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 April 2023What an amazing book. It is so validating to read that others have gone through the same experience and all the emotions that come with it. I recommend this for anyone suffering from pregnancy or baby loss and also for friends or family who want to understand how to support someone who is going through it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deeply Moving
This helped me. It was what I needed to read. I feel less alone and more understood. Of course, now I have to get up and wash my face.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very needed hug: “You are not alone … we’re a friggin’ lighthouse and we see you.”
I was apprehensive to start this book, wondering whether it would be too hard to read about emotions I haven’t processed yet. Or whether I was entitled to sit with my own grief, reading a book and wallowing in my own pain.
Little did I know that TWGGE would become my source of validation and hope, and every word of this book would be the only source of validation. It’s made me cry, it has helped me remember and honor my experiences, and it’s helped me look forward to what may be next in store.
The book addresses important topics like misconceptions around miscarriage and dealing with grief and isolation, marking losses and validation of all the ugly feelings, with empathy. It gives space not only for all the tough feelings, but also for laughter and hope. It put into words things I was feeling and didn’t know how to express, and even things I didn’t even know I was feeling, buried deep inside.
I wish everyone who has lost a baby could read it. Most importantly, everyone close to those who have lost a baby should get this invaluable resource. I sent relevant bits to my partner and relatives to improve our communication and heal relationships strained after our losses. I wish they had had access to it earlier.
Reading felt like navigating through rough storms, with Bex and Laura as my guides. Their voices shine, together with plenty of stories from other diverse families. There are also little exercises and expert tips, which have given me reassurance and support to keep going, day by day. It’s honest, it doesn’t try to sugarcoat the most horrific truths of miscarriage.
And yet it has shown me I am not my grief, and empowered me to move forward holding it together the love I have yet to give.
