In Conversation Paperback – 3 July 2022
Purchase options and add-ons
All the poems in In Conversation began their life with a word(s) or line exchanged in conversation, or that captured her attention while she was viewing or listening to something. She regards them as articulations of the said and unsaid, with the poetic voice in them not always hers but rather an expression or interpretation of the voice(s) of others.
Themes of life, loss, love, protest and more are awaiting all who choose to engage in conversation with these poems. Readers have described In Conversation as unapologetic, raw, poignant, vulnerable and brave; a journey. 'It speaks of someone that feels and loves much for this world, the wonderful imperfect people in it, and the injustices that go on.'

About the author

Janice Whyne; is a Londoner by birthplace, a Jamaican by birthright and has been a words person since childhood. ‘Dear..., love Janice’ wasn’t enough for her prose-filled Christmas cards! She sees poetry as a conduit for our individual and collective feelings and lived experiences.
She participated in her first open mic at The Poetry Cafe, London in 2016. It was a ‘feel the fear and do it anyway’ moment and the first milestone on her journey of rediscovering her creative self.
Her poems are responses to occurrences that have captured–sometimes demanded–her attention and also a means of protest. The murder of George Floyd, and the strip search of Child Q, instinctively made her put pen to paper. Themes in her work include Identity, loss, life's challenges and hopes.
Her debut poetry collection, 'In Conversation', was published in 2022, and her poem, ‘Sitting with Amazing’, is in The Poetry Archive Now Worldview 2021 Winners collection. Other poems feature in ‘Coffee & Contemplation: a taste of empowerment’ (2020), All My Relations, Vol. 5, Talbot-Heindl (2023), ‘Her locks unveiled: poems from the Black in White poetry competition’ (2023), and other online and printed mediums.
She’s performed at Flovortex, The Mother Wolf Club, Voices in Power, London, Poets Palace and Ubud Writers Readers Festival Poetry Slam. –Coming 1st runner-up in 2019 and 2022.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 November 2022I feel the author is writing from a place where I can connect in a tangible way. I've seen her perform live, and she's electric, draws you to her with hooks so deep your soul emits, your fingers click, and at the end, you're nodding, eyes searching for kindreds who, just like you, are moved to your toes. How nice that I can read her work in book form and shake my head at the lyrical renderings within the covers.
I mean "The lingering looks, the sensitive touch the edge of a smile" from "The Unsaid" or "I'm carrying loss in my bones" - from Porous. This book is something I pick up when I need to laugh and when I feel like I need a boost.
In Conversation is a book that makes you FEEL.

Is thoughtful collection of written prose. Janice exposes emotion, her experiences of love and loss and captures the diversity of human life. With a wide range of personal favourites such as ‘Humanity’, ‘I am’, and of course ‘Portrayal’, this book of poetry comes straight from the heart. The pages may be black and white but the warm, creative writing pours out a depth of colour straight from the author's voice. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading poetry and exploring the complexities of life. It is sure to inspire and delight!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 November 2022Love love love this book. I’m generally not big on poetry but found I connected with so many of these poems. It almost felt like spoken word more than written word. Highly recommend
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 March 2023The poet captures life and human existence succinctly through a series of poems, whether this is through for example the poem "Humanity" or "Love". Definitely worth a read.
