Jenny Hammerton learned to cook from the glittering screen stars of yesteryear. Many years ago, in a dusty, stamp and postcard collectables shop, she stumbled upon a vintage celebrity cookbook. This chance find would change her life. The manic collecting began, and her celebrity recipe archive now numbers over 7000. She probably won’t live long enough to try all these dishes, but she’s going to give it a good go. Movie star recipe successes (and failures) have been documented on the Silver Screen Suppers website for over a decade. A graduate of the UEA Masters in Film Archiving course, Jenny has worked in film archives for over twenty years. She adores her job and is currently working with the British Movietone cinema newsreel collection. Jenny lives in Muswell Hill, North London with her DVD box set of Columbo.     Dieses buch liefert einige Hintergrundinfos zur Columbo-Reihe und natürlich vor allem Rezepte, Rezepte, Rezepte, viele davon sind typisch für die 70er Jahre. Mir wird das Nachkochen Spaß machen.

    Per chi, come me, è cresciuto guardando il Tenente sfinire psicologicamente assassini di ogni risma, età, sesso e religione, è una chicca da conservare gelosamente!
    è una collezione di ricette promosse dagli attori della serie, da chi ha interpretato per più volte (o anche solo per una volta) la parte dell'assassino e contiene anche qualche ricetta tratta dagli episodi dove si cucina (le famose omelette alla Colombo!) e altre di Peter Falk.

    I love food, and I love Lieutenant Columbo; cookbooks not so much. But two out of three sold it and I just finished: Cooking With Columbo: Suppers With The Shambling Sleuth by Jenny Hammerton. You should know that if someone loves Columbo, they love him a lot. Hammerton, along with superb blogger Columbophile (who is referenced in this book), are two of the best sources of witty and informative opinion on the topic. It is also worth noting that food and drink are often referenced in the 69 episode Columbo canon, for diverse effect. It can be serious (how did Paul Gerard poison Chef Vittorio Rossi in Murder Under Glass?) or, more often, frivolous; including Columbo’s many run-ins with Chili and boiled eggs. The author has taken full advantage of the celebrity tendency to provide recipes for various books and causes. She in turn provides readers with wry summations of each episode with an emphasis on food; a recipe she finds relevant; either from a guest star or related to the story; and feedback from various beta cooks who have tried the recipe out. This format works well; the book is hard to put down and leaves you intrigued and chuckling throughout. I am no expert on recipes but I bookmarked some that will be prepared in my kitchen soon. Enjoy with a Chili and a boiled egg.

    I was intrigued by the premise of COOKING WITH COLUMBO - SUPPERS WITH THE SHAMBLING SLEUTH, and ordered the book right away. I was not disappointed, this will be a firm favourite among my many recipe books and deserves its place alongside equally camp treats like LIBERACE COOKS! and the favourite dishes of Elvis Presley entitled ARE YOU HUNGRY TONIGHT?
    They say, along with that other beloved classic US show I LOVE LUCY, COLUMBO is showing on a TV screen somewhere in the world, night and day, 24-7! COLUMBO is still loved 50 years on, because of its unique mix of crime, comedy and an always stellar celebrity cast - led by the wonderful Peter Falk. But a less obvious thread that ran through each episode was food, and author Jenny Hammerton exploits that rich and delicious seam to the max in her marvellous new book.
    Ms Hammerton is known as the queen of retro Hollywood cuisine with her superb SILVER SCREEN SUPPERS website. If you have never visited it, you are in for a real treat! COOKING WITH COLUMBO continues that tradition, with a mind boggling array of recipes that were either featured in Columbo or championed by its many guest stars. What's more, each dish has been created anew and sampled by an army of test cooks just for this book. Their findings are as entertaining as they are honest and give readers a steer on whether or not a dish is for them (Leonard Nimoy's potatoes with bananas, anyone?!) There's a smorgasbord of yummy fayre to be found like William Shatner's Steak Picado, Billy Connolly's stuffed trout dish and Columbo's own foolproof cheese and onion omelette.
    Jenny's own resumes of the Columbo episodes that inspired each recipe are great fun and give the book added spice!
    COOKING WITH COLUMBO is a must have for the book shelf of every foodie and lover of kitsch in the kitchen! As the great man himself would say: "Just one more thing - Bon appetit!"
