History

Mythology
- Mythology, these powerful events, stories, & tales often find themselves connected, becoming intertwined with plants & trees.
Folklore
- Folklore, the echo's of voices from the past. Hear the folktales that surround plants & trees. Some lead to goblins, while others lead to superbug antibiotic soil that continues to astound scientists today.
Both ancient herbalism & modern science standing side by side together.
- Herbalism, aka plant-based medicine, has led the way through history to where modern medicine is today. Many medicines originate from plants, trees, & fungi. For example, some chemotherapies originate from the yew tree, powerful heart failure medicines originate from the foxglove flower, & even simple day-to-day medicines we take for granted such as aspirin originate from the meadowsweet flower. Herbalism is the tradition both ancient & modern of harnessing the natural medicine found in nature, a gift from the earth that grows freely all around us.
Be amazed at what can be made free by nature
- Oils, balms, & salves are a way for us to use the medicinal properties of plants & trees on our skin. By infusing them into oils, we also preserve them, allowing us to enjoy their health benefits long after their seasons have passed. Nowadays, it's easy to think that herbal infusions are more commonly found in history books rather than on the shelf. But the reality is that many beauty products & skin medicines today still use this basic method of plant infusion to use nature's healing & rejuvenating properties. In the world of skin healing & beauty, rosehips are nature's natural wonder. Naturally rich in vitamins, antioxidants, essential fatty acids, anti-inflammatory & skin-regenerating properties. Rosehip infused oil helps to hydrate the skin, treat scars, burns & regenerate damaged tissue.
Breath life back into the forgotten knowledge of flowers.
- The daisy is also known as bone flower, bruisewort, & woundwort because it's great for treating inflammation from broken bones & helping the skin heal from bumps & bruises. You can also use daisy salve as a replacement for arnica to help soothe aches, strains, & pains.
An endless list of the medicinal properties found in nature
- Yarrow has been used for its wound-healing abilities as far back in history as we can see. Most famously, it was used by the armies of the great Greek warrior Achilles to heal their wounds after battles. Almost forgotten today, yarrow, a wild edible & medicinal flower, grows freely in abundance & is often still considered a weed!

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 October 2022Where do I even start with this brilliant book! Firstly I run a forest school & foraging courses so I like to think I know my stuff. I love botanical books & foraging books and have gathered a vast collection over time. But without doubt knowledge to forage has topped the lot of them.
1. The book is a beast. Remember school text book? It's easily the same size. Over 400 pages on fact. These pages aren't small either I'd say the books probably abit larger than an A4 slice of paper.
2. The book is a beautiful high quality print. The cover isn't glossy it has a fine texture to the touch. Then the pages within are a nice paper. Giving the book a unique feel.
3. The high quality photos! This is the foraging book that many desire no drawings for Identification but actual photographs. And many of them. Each species in this book gets an entire collage of photos to help aid identification. There pictures from all angles. After I browse I thought this must have taken years and after reading the final page it did in fact take the authors somthing like 15 months take take them all ! I can't imagine the leg work that went into that adventure.
4. Absolutely Crystal clear explanations & reading experience. I love how to book is written, it's like your being spoken too rather than reading plain text. I saw a review on here that says the text isn't clear which is absolutely rubbish! My 4 year reads this book with ease. Each page has clear bold text & a faded background behind it. This to me takes the book into a unique word of its own. There's nothing like it.
5. The facts are spot on. Each species has the details of things such as common names, family names, where to find it & most importantly what season you'll be able to harvest it. As well as extra details like nutritional properties & value to wildlife.
6. The herbalism ! I knew the medicinal properties found in nature where great but I had no idea at just how great they are ! There's plants in this book that can sooth anxiety, be used as antibiotics & even been shown to treat major diseases such as mrsa. The way the herbalism is laid out is wonderful and really shines a light on how our ancestor's really knew what they was talking about.
7. The history, mythology & Folklore. Wow... Just simply wow. The students can't get enough of these sections in this book. We've been taking this book out through the woods as soon as we find a plant quickly what's the history they say. We flick through to plant and they find it fascinating. Like the authors mention these tales and historical references help is to remember. Now when they see a Thistel they think about how the viking trud upon a Thistel in Scotland. His yell leading to the Vikings sneak attack being foiled. This then leading to the Thistel being the emblem of Scotland today. Brilliant.
8. The recipes. The book then transforms into a recipe book. A huge amount of recipes you can make from the species in the book. There's Jams, Cordials , vinegars you name it there all in here. We made the dandelion root coffee and we all loved it.
I'm ranting. I could go on & on about this book. Iv been giving it raving reviews to who ever I can. I feel its our duty to help the authors Dane & Stella to make this book a success because to top it all of they self published it! They wrote & created the entire book themselves which I'm sure is no easy feat.
Congratulations to the authors on such a stunning book your hard work & love for the outdoors is clear to see & read. Every page full of knowledge that your book has now preserved and will now pass on to the future generations. Im as tough as old books and this book brought tears to my eyes when I flicked through it for the first time. Iv now brought 5 copies & if your reading this then get a copy of this book. You'll not regret it.
P.s I eagerly await your next book but understand books like this can take many years to complete.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 February 2024After coming across a video about Ivy from this awesome family.. Dane, Stella and their Children, I soon started following them and binge watching their YouTube content and saw that they had also written a couple of books. I had a very basic knowledge of plant lore but really wanted to learn how to make my own salves, soaps and syrups etc. This book is totally amazing as there are so many helpfully tips, guidance on correct identification and also what to watch out for that may look similar. The dandelion and Daisy healing lotion bars are first on my make list lol. I also love all the folklore, historical facts and artwork that goes into each page. Also the little poem about each plant at the start of each one, love this book and in just a few days I’ve learnt so much about plants I see daily but didn’t have a clue what they were or what they could be used for. Highly recommend this totally amazing book and giving them a watch on the various social media sources. Will be ordering their other book asap too.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 May 2024Well, what an incredible book. Thank you to the authors for all the hard work, love, and information shared in this book. I'm full of appreciation for the time you have taken to put this beautiful book together. I'm not a big reader, but I sat last night after receiving my book and chomped my way through half!
The book is layed out in an easy to read and follow way. Just the right amount of information and I love the photos of each plant because this makes identification easy and less room for error.
I follow this family on Tictok and love everything they share, including their enthusiasm and passion for wild/natural foods and medicines. Sharing this information is absolutely essential if we are to keep ourselves, our families, and friends healthy.
An absolute must buy!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 August 2024I like the nice clear photos and the idiot proof descriptions. I love how informative it is about health benefits, ways to utilise and prepare the plants and herbs, seasonal choices and the added bonus of a really interesting section on the historical myths and legends attached to each foraging plant. Beautifully presented throughout and written with such warmth and joy.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 August 2023what a book this is written in a clear concise way with brilliant photos for easy identification of plants. loved that this book contained a history of the plant and also scientific studies based on the health benefits of each one. brilliant that i could explore all this then there were recipes included too and my kitchen has never been so busy, I've made jelly's , jams, syrups and balms. also stocked our own medicine chest with natural products for cuts, stings and colds. love that i can go on you tube and feel connected with this family and their journeys thru the countryside. highly recommend to others that want to be more self sufficient and who want to encourage their children or grandchildren away from computer screens and social media. only one more thing to add having bought both of their books i look forward to future publications and extending my own knowledge further.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Lovely and Informative Read
What a lovely book! I just got my copy and it's clear a lot of love went into it's creation. It's packed full of knowledge but the flow is so natural it reads like a guided journey with Dane & Stella's whole family through the forest. I love that myth and folklore are woven throughout the whole book alongside modern plant uses, recipes, and other tips which is a wonderful addition. I also really appreciate the section on toxic plants. I've been working with plants for over a decade but it's really important information for beginners. Not only is the book well thought out it's also beautiful. The pages are covered in illustrations, historical images, and pictures of the whole family foraging making every page feel warm, inviting, and exciting. I highly recommend this book for beginners and experts alike.
