KNIPEX Cobra XS water pump pliers: the smallest water pump pliers at a length of only 100 mm, for all environments
A small marvel: KNIPEX Cobra XS with a length of only 100 mm – particularly compact design, ideal for working in the tightest of spaces thanks to its slim head
Small, useful and anything but a toy! The Cobra XS is a new, compact member of the KNIPEX Cobra family. It is a fully functional pair of high-tech water pump pliers that really comes into its own in tight spaces. With fine adjustment directly on the workpiece, this tool provides eleven adjustment positions and can grip nuts up to 24 mm in diameter and other workpieces as large as 28 mm – at an overall length of only 100 millimetres. Owing to its compact size, the Cobra XS can be easily used with only one hand. Like all products in the KNIPEX Cobra family, the Cobra XS is of course self-locking on pipes and nuts: The result is no slipping at the workpiece and operations such as gripping, holding, pressing and bending are considerably less strenuous.
High-tech water pump pliers with many smart details
The robust box joint features an innovative mechanism for adjusting the opening width: Simply place the upper jaw half onto the workpiece, then push the lower jaw forwards. The gripping surfaces have specially hardened teeth (approx. 60 HRC): for a permanently secure grip and high wear resistance. A pinch guard protects against crush injuries.
- Optimum working in confined spaces: particularly compact design with very slim head
- Single-handed fine adjustment for extremely simple adaptation to all workpiece sizes
- Permanently secure grip thanks to high wear resistance
- Gripping capacity of Ø 28 mm, width across flats up to 24 mm – at only 100 mm length

Small, but only in size
The KNIPEX Cobra XS is self-locking and durable – a genuine pair of full-fledged KNIPEX water pump pliers.
The small one shows true greatness
Its slim head provides a firm grip even in confined spaces.
With an even more compact design
To keep them as slim as possible, the handles are not plastic-coated. To ensure good grip, they are cross-textured on the outside.
Small jaws but great strengths
The KNIPEX Cobra XS grips nuts up to 24 mm and other workpieces as large as 28 mm.
Enormous gripping capacity also according to DIN standard
DIN ISO 8976 specifies how water pump pliers must be designed. The KNIPEX Cobra XS fulfils all the requirements and grips workpieces up to 28 mm in diameter with parallel jaws.
Box joint: robust and helpful
The box joint provides high quality and durability thanks to a dual guide. Its new, patented mechanism allows work with only one hand: open, push, fits!
Small enough to be a permanent companion
The KNIPEX Cobra XS is a super practical tool – and with its 100 mm size, it's so small that it really fits in any pocket.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 November 2021Pattern Name: SingleVerified PurchaseI was shown one of these by a friend who was using it instead of a pot lifter while camping. It was so tactile that I had to have one.
My job is maintenance in a large school and one or two tools are always in my pocket. I found I was carrying a Swiss Army Knife AND a multi tool, but only ever using the pliers on the latter. Within days of this Knipex arriving, it was my primary first choice for nearly everything. The knife has stayed and the multi tool is now in the hands of somebody else.
The one handed operation means those tight spaces at the back of sinks etc are much more accessible and the strength achievable in this tiny wrench has to be experienced to be believed.
In the couple of weeks that I’ve owned this remarkable tool, two friends have bought them for themselves and a heating engineer (who prides himself on his Knipex collection) actually borrowed mine for a tight space on the school boiler, and then promptly ordered one there and then.
I have seldom been more delighted by the purchase of a tool, it is robust to the point of being nothing short of Mighty. The design is immaculate and a joy to use. It can handle anything up to an inch and slightly more, but can be employed in a huge amount of everyday tasks that would normally involve heading to the tool box. The precision for jobs like retrieving tiny screws which have slipped through to the back of fittings (as I can personally attest) is, I would say in my gushing praise, almost surgical.
Highly recommended and an obvious five stars in all categories.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 April 2023Pattern Name: SingleVerified PurchaseInstead of carrying a larger multi-tool (like a leatherman) I have chosen to buy a decent pocket knife and a selection of tools to keep in my pocket. This has worked out cheaper and has left me with better quality items overall.
I chose these Knipex pliers to keep in my pocket and they are an excellent choice. They fit in my jeans 5th pocket, with just the tips of the handles poking out. The mouth of this is easy to adjust and it has a wide range of adjustment.
The tip is precisie enough to grip smaller items and adjusts wide enough to grip nuts and bolts with ease. The handle may be a little too small to get adequate torque at times, but as long as you are aware of what this is and what it is inteneded for, you should have no complaints.
These are well machined, with grip knurling and there are no sharp edges on the teeth etc.
These are an excellent everyday carry item and would suppliment a pocket knife well.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 October 2024Pattern Name: SingleVerified PurchaseThis is tiny, perfect for keeping with a bicycle repair kit. It can easily grip the end of a brake cable, and in a pinch can do duty as a spanner (although it will leave teeth marks in the nut). The handles are very short, and not particularly comfortable, but make up for that by being surprisingly grippy.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 May 2022Pattern Name: SingleVerified PurchaseBeing a fan of EDC kit, I have a lot of Victorinox Swiss Army knives of various sizes. Whilst a few models do have some pliers (which are “OK”), the lack of proper pliers has always been the weak link when compared to things like Leatherman style multi-tools.
I’m so glad I found out about these on an EDC forum. For their tiny size they fell a smidge pricey (£15 would feel more reasonable than £20) but they are highly versatile due to their one handed use and opening grips (like a plumbers wrench). They feel very comfortable in the hand and very strong. The ability to open jaws wide mean you could have a decent attempt at working a nut as well if needed. I would hazard that in a pliers only competition, these Knippex would actually be better than even an expensive multitool.
When you think how much a decent leather man would cost, I’m now a lot happier having a £50 Swiss Army knife and these £20 pliers in my bag and knowing I can do pretty much* everything a leatherman can do (and not shed as many tears if I lose a £150 multi tool).
….*ok, I know with this combo I will still not be able to cut through wire, but in over 30 years I have never personally had the requirement when out and about.

5.0 out of 5 stars So tiny! So useful!
Pattern Name: SingleVerified PurchasePictures don't do these pliers justice. They simply disappear in my pocket. Moreover the range of adjustment is amazing. Obviously they aren't going to allow you to exert much torque, but for an always with you emergency (as in any time you don't have your regular tools) wrench to loosen the occasional nut or do other plier duty, these are tough to beat. I bought the cheap Crescent minis, and while adequate and a bargain, they don't compare. It's also nice to get something that isn't made in China. I may invest in one of those cheap plastic sheaths to keep them from opening up in my pocket, but they ride pretty well as is. Love the quality.
