These Thoughts Are Yours: A Collection of Short Stories Paperback – 31 July 2023

5.0 5.0 out of 5 stars 12 ratings

These Thoughts Are Yours is a collection of 20 short stories which are connected by the female experience, the magical complexity of the female mind and the raw, honest emotions that accompany it. It exposes the beautiful defiance that hides away in those who have been hurt. It reveals the shocking truths that we often feel but never speak. It responds to the child who lingers within all of us, that part of us which maintains hope in an often cruel and unforgiving world. These are snapshots of life seen through the eyes of the female – the woman, the child, the girl.
Happy Ever After
Sarah and Harry were inseparable, two children in a world of adults who all know better and can decide what happens next. Sarah battles against her world and her mind in a world that refuses to listen to her.
The Delivery
Mary waits. She waits for her life to end and begin at the same time. Mary’s hopes and dreams have been decided for her and she waits for the defining moment that will set her off on a new course. From her window above, she watches the delivery of a gift.
To Have and to Hold
Amy’s inextinguishable hope drives her to keep hold of her dreams and visions of a happy life, the life that will arrive with confetti and a big white dress. However, a growing realisation that life is not a fairy tale soon dawns upon her. This is a story about hope in a cruel and pitiless world.

Found the author on tiktok, the title got my attention.
Well, a great weekend spent reading it. The writing is pure perfection and the stories all connect under the same, magical experience of a woman's voice.
This is the first book of short stories I actually wished I could restart again like it was the first time.

Reading this book has been like revisiting different parts of myself. Each story centres on a character and I was able to find a little piece of myself in each and every one of them, in one way or another. The characters are written in such a down-to-earth but beautiful way, you feel like you're sitting with them, watching the scenes that are unfolding around them or feeling, smelling, tasting and seeing what they're describing. Sitting down with this book is like snuggling up on your sofa on a winter's afternoon with a duvet and a cup of tea - it's pure joy. Some stories speak of pain, others make you laugh out loud either through recognition of a situation or just because they're so downright funny! A great read, 100% recommend!

For being a first-time author, Jane has written a book that all women can relate to. I had to ration myself to one story a day for two reasons - firstly because I wanted to focus on each chapter/story to fully absorb it, and secondly because this is one of those books that I didn't want to come to the end of.

Well done, Jane. I'm looking forward to reading your novel.

A well written, thought provoking , intense book. It had me in tears as I immersed myself in the characters and I rationed myself to reading one chapter each day. Each story gives the reader something to think about and reflect on.Well done, I look forward to more from this author.

Beautifully written short stories with relatable characters. Thought provoking and with a great sense of humour. I particularly enjoyed the super short tales, they felt like flashes of thoughts and glimpses into someone’s mind. Very well done.
