Clearly mentioned how JALLIKATTU was happening

Clearly mentioned how JALLIKATTU was happening
I have not seen JALLIKATTU by the way of eye till now. But this book written by Chelappa had clearly show me how JALLIKATTU was happening, how bulls are prepared etc, kaari (bull's name) killed Pichi's (protagonist) father in JALLIKATTU domain, Pichi coming from the nearer village to participate in jallikattu and he comes to about Kaari and how he is winning against Kaari is the one line of this story. I eagerly waiting to watch this as film in silver screen by Vetrimaran.

This is a quick read which vividly portrays a Jallikattu fight sometime after independence when the feudal structure had not yet broken down. The story is about a young man (Pichi) who participates in Jallikattu to vanquish the bull, of a Zamindar, which gores his father to death.

The author provides a excellent narrative of the fight and the story is rooted in realism as Pichi after winning fight and soaked in blood prostrates before the Zamindar and apologises for defeating the bull. Though the Zamindar pretends to be a large hearted man and rewards Pichi, the bull is not as lucky and is killed by the Zamindar.

Bought it after Dir. Vetrimaran announced the movie project. Great novel to read :) But, as it is a very short story, this book gets completed in 1-2 days :(

Crisp writing and vivid portrayal of an ancient Tamil sport. Si.Su.Chellappa weaves magic with his words in painting this. What attracts human beings to tame a bull in its irate nature? Why do people consider “honor” as a key value in risking their lives on this sport? Chellappa does not spoon feed us on this but sets the context to answer ourselves.
