Purchase options and add-ons

This book is primarily designed as a companion to the walkers guidebook for the Northern Pilgrims’ Way, a medieval pilgrimage route that passes through the most northerly part of mainland Scotland and on to the island of Orkney. It will also be of interest to those who live along that route or have visited the area and have a fondness for it. It provides some background information on topics ranging from ‘What is a pilgrimage?’ to hints on driving on single-track roads. Then it takes the reader along the route, pointing out places of interest that they will pass through. It also includes details of six circular routes within Caithness linking the sites associated with the early Celtic saints who brought Christianity to these parts.

This is a very informative resource book for anyone interested in the often overlooked but important spiritual history of Caithness and the Far North. It is mainly intended to be used in conjunction with the Guidebook to the Northern Pilgrims' Way, which reinstates and follows the ancient pilgrimage routes from Tain to Kirkwall. It is also useful in giving a deeper understanding of ancient sites listed on the Northern Saints' Trails, which begin and end in Thurso or Wick. It is also a fascinating book to dip into for anyone with an interest in the history of Caithness. Highly recommended.
